Brief Profile


Presently working as Research Fellow under Climate and Governance Development Programme with Institute of Development Studies, U.K.

Recently completed a Course on " Bridging the Research-Policy Divide" An AusAID ALA International Fellowship Programme at Australian National University, Camberra. The programme intends to develop the capacity in policy research area mainly on key issues of climate change and enhancement of adaptive capacity of the food system, through improving policy responses.

Have more than 13 years of working experience with Government, International and National Organisations like SIFPSA-Govt Agency, Oxfam Novib-Netherlands, Centre for Ecology and Hydrology of Natural Environmental Research Council-UK, GECAFS International Project Office-UK, Asia Pacific Network for Global Change Research-Japan, IIASA-Austria, DFID, WINROCK International-New Delhi, SEEDS-New Delhi, NWCF-Nepal, INTRAH / PRIME-II -New Delhi, etc.

Work experience is related to major developmental issues like: Poverty Reduction, Food Security, Climatic Change and Adaptation, Disaster Risk Reduction, Sustainable Agriculture and Organic Farming, Local Self Governance Issues, Water and Sanitation, Gender & Women Empowerment, Health Issues ( Like HIV / AIDS/ STIs, RCH ),community based institutions etc.

I am sound in programme management, networking and policy advocacy, conduct researches and studies, monitoring and evaluation (both internal and external), documentation, project development and fund raising, writing articles and papers etc.

1. Current Engagement (continued w.e.f. April09)


Presently working as Research Fellow under Climate and Governance Development Programme with Institute of Development Studies, U.K. The research project is on " Citizen Engagement and Accountability in Climate Adaptation and Disaster Risk Reduction Policy Process, being implemented in India.

2. Past Engagements:

1-Worked with Gorakhpur Environmental Action Group (GEAG), Gorakhpur and discharged diverse duties and responsibilities under different projects, funded by national and international organisations. The details of the major assignments & responsibilities are as under:

* As Senior Co-ordinator / Programme Manager
in Oxfam NOVIB, Netherlands funded Project “Ensuring Livelihood of Small Farmers through Sustainable Agriculture and Right Based Advocacy with an Emphasis on Response to Climatic Change Impacts”. My major responsibilities include overall programme management, monitoring and evaluation and conduction of researches and studies etc.

*As Senior Researcher in Asia Pacific Network, Japan funded project “Improving Policy Response to Interactions between Global Environmental Change (GEC) and Food Security across the Indo-Gangetic Plain (IGP), being implemented in Vaishali district, Bihar. (Continued from August, 2006).

* As Co-ordinator in DFID funded International Project “From Risk to Resilience: Assessing the Cost and Benefits of Pro-Active Disaster Risk Management to meet the Need of Vulnerable Communities in South Asia” in collaboration with WINROCK International and IIASA- Austria. This project intends to influence Government and Non-Government Organisations to make area specific beneficial policy. ( one year project completed in Oct,08)

* As Consultant to support Diversified Agricultural Support Project, supported by Uttar Pradesh Government, being implemented in Deoria district of Uttar Pradesh (2008-09)

* Worked as Project Coordinator in Gorakhpur, U.P. in SIFPSA (USAID) funded Traditional Birth Attendants Training Project on RCH issue (1.11.02 to 24.5.04)

2. Worked with St. Mary’s Polyclinic in Sitapur of U.P. in SIFPSA (USAID) funded Traditional Birth Attendants Training Project on RCH issue(from 9.9.01 to 30.10.02)

As Researcher:-

Being analytical & innovative person, research work has always been my favorite work. I have conducted several national and international level researches and studies. These are related to: Food Security, Poverty Reduction, sustainable agriculture and low input farming techniques, Local Governance, climatic change and its vulnerability, disaster risk reduction and adaptation in flood prone area, gender and women empowerment, etc. Some major researcher and studies are mentioned below:

•Research Report on “Improving Policy Response to Interactions Between Global Environmental Change (GEC) and Food Security Across the Indo-Gangetic Plain (IGP), being implemented in Vaishali District, Bihar funded by Asia Pacific Network, Japan and supported by GECAFS-UK and Australian National University, Australia (in process).

•Survey Report on “Views From the Frontline of Hyogo Framework for Action, Japan” assessing the progress of Disaster Risk Reduction Programme in India.

•Research paper on ‘Implications of Climate Variability on Food Systems in IGP-4 (District-Vaishali, Bihar) in collaboration with Asia Pacific Network-Japan and GECAFS, UK.

•Research Report “Scale Analysis of the Vulnerability of Food Systems to Global Environmental Change in IGP-4 ( District-Vaishali, Bihar) supported by Centre for Ecology and Hydrology of Natural Environmental Research Council-UK and GECAFS International Project Office, UK .

•Thesis on “The Emerging Patterns of Rural Leadership”, in the special reference of New Panchayati Raj System (73rd Amendment) in Lucknow district.

•Survey on “Income, Gender and Utilization of the Health Services” of 100 Urban & Rural Families on the request of a student of Trinity College, Ireland.

•Analytical Study on Reasons of Low Production of Wheat Crop in the Rabi 2004-05 in special reference of Small & Marginal Farmers of Gorakhpur district.


As Monitoring and Evaluation Professional:
Being analytical minded and developmental oriented critic with community centric approach, the evaluation is one of my favourite jobs. As an internal and external evaluator, through application of result based management system and participatory methodologies, I have so far conducted evaluation of several projects and activities (livelihood, poverty reduction, gender and women empowerment, local governance, health projects, disaster risk reduction etc), funded by national and international organizations (DFID, Oxfam NOVIB, SIFPSA / USAID, Global Network on Disaster Reduction etc). I have also assisted several international and national level evaluators in evaluation processes. As senior evaluation expert, I also assist other ongoing projects and organizations. The following are the details of carried out the evaluation of major internal and external projects:

•Final Project Evaluation of DFID funded PACS Project namely Empowerment of Dalits and Marginalised especially of the Women, being implemented by DISA, Basti, U.P.

•Impact Assessment of Programmatic Intervention towards Women Empowerment, implemented by GEAG

•Final Project Evaluation of NOVIB, The Netherlands funded Poverty Reduction through Enhancing Livelihood Options based on Sustainable Agriculture, Institution Building, Advocacy and Networking project. The report was used by international level evaluators.

•Impact Assessment of Adoption of Sustainable Agriculture and Low Input Farming Practices, promoted by GEAG.

•Mid Term Evaluation of DFID funded PACS Project namely Empowerment of Dalits and Marginalised specially of the Women, being implemented by DISA, Basti,U.P.

•Performance Assessment of TBAs, funded by DFID/PACS and implemented by Shohrathgrah Environmental Society, Siddarth Nagar, U.P.

•Supported in MID Term Evaluation of SIFPSA / USAID funded TBA Training project, implemented Sitapur, conducted by Sehyog, Lucknow.

Extra-Curricular Activities
